Umax ships sub-£600 Mac OS desktop

Umax is pushing for Mac OS system pricing to compete on a par with PCs with the release of a sub-£600 desktop.

The Taiwanese firm's Apus 2000/160 is a 160MHz PowerPC-based system with 16Mb RAM, 1.2Gb hard drive, SCSI-2, SRS sound and 1Mb video RAM. A more advanced model, the Apus 2000AV, has 32Mb RAM, 33.6kbps voice modem and ATI Xclaim VR graphics card and costs £875 + VAT. Prices don't include a monitor.
