US January retail sales up 5.8%

Sales climbed 5.8% at U.S. merchants during the month, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers, which forecast a 4.5% gain. That increase was the highest gain for January since 1999, according to Michael Niemira, chief economist at the International Council of Shopping Centers.
