Update: Several hours after making this post, I was notified by Gizmo Project representatives that this problem was spotted last night and the latest release is now available that fixes the problem. Visit http://www.gizmoproject.com/download-linux.html to get the latest Linux version.

Gizmo Project is SIPphone's open source softphone.

Gizmo has released a new Linux version, capable of supporting Debian, Fedora Core 4 and Linspire installs.

Yet reports are starting to surface that the build has some problems.

On his PhoneBoy Blog, Dameon D. Welch-Abernathy reports that the client would not start for him.

I know, that's just one person, but what about the posts on Gizmo's own Forum

Let's go there now and visit a thread called Gizmo on Fedora Core 4.1 bombs out.

Here are some highlights- or lowlights, as it were. Bold face is mine, for emphasis:

"I am running Fedora Core 4.1 (4 with all the updates). Gizmo simply doesn't work.. Skype works fine."- Belantos.

"Same problem here- Debian testing, gizmo 1.0 beta (v14).. I can also report that Skype, GnomeMeeting etc. work fine on the same machine. No other audio program is running at the same time as Gizmo"- mattdoyle.

"FC4 CD's with no updates. Same thing happens on two different machines. Failure in MediaEngine::init()"- ggggizmo.

"Same problem here-worked fine yesterday but today on 3 different computers same error: Login Error, error while MediaEngine::init(). Something must have changed on the Gizmo end."- ctmcginnis.
