USyd shuts down network again

Summary:USyd will be taking down its network tonight to fix a hardware fault, following yesterday's outage.

The University of Sydney (USyd) network will be down again tonight after an outage yesterday took out the school's phone, data and Wi-Fi services .

On the first day of the second semester, students and staff were unable to access their university email accounts and other USyd websites due to a hardware fault.

Services were progressively restored between 2pm and 10pm AEST yesterday, but the problem has not been completely fixed. Some areas of the university, including hospital sites, are still experiencing limited or intermittent network connections.

According to an email to students from USyd CIO Bruce Meikle, the university will be taking key systems offline from 6pm AEST tonight to resolve the issue.

"Please complete all essential online activity before this time, as you may experience loss of connection to the network and several online services, such as the university website," Meikle said in the email to students.

USyd apologised to students for the service disruptions.
