VASCO enables secure, transparent wireless transactions on new Siemens Java phone, using Digipass software to create authentication and digital signatures for secure mobile commerce

The new SL45i Java Phone from Siemens is the latest mobile platform to use VASCO’s Digipass authentication and digital signature security software.

The SL45i Java Phone is a mobile "smart" phone, with features that include an MP3 player, digital voice recorder, personal organizer, and many other intelligent features enabling true mobile communication.

Due to the full interoperability of all members of the Digipass family, organizations already using Digipass can easily incorporate remote access using SL45i Java Phone without changing their existing infrastructure.

Digipass provides an extra level of protection for users of Internet banking. On entering a PIN number, Digipass generates a one-time password to establish the identity of the user.

This means that to gain access, the user must not only know their account details and PIN number but also be in possession of their unique Digipass (in this case, the Siemens SL45i Java Phone). The Digipass also allows users to digitally sign their online transactions, preventing unauthorized persons from tampering with their transactions and personal information.

"Digipass provides end-to-end secure data exchange between the end-user and the m-commerce store or financial institution, without relying on the underlying wireless connectivity infrastructure, meaning it provides security for all present and future wireless networks, from GSM, GPRS, and UMTS to future 3G networks, including SMS functionality," said Mario Houthooft, President and CEO of VASCO.

"Integrating Digipass security into our SL45i Java Phone continues our successful partnership with VASCO that began with Digipass on the Siemens SX45 wireless PDA for Pocket PC, introduced in March of this year," noted Bernhard Geisberger, Director Partner Program, Siemens Information and Communication Mobile.
