As if there weren't enough overpriced "luxury" phones available, here's a new one courtesy of Vertu and Ferrari.

Emblazoned with plenty of logos around the device so that no one forgets Ferrari has any part in this, the special edition of Vertu's Ascent Ti featurephone is made from a black-finished, forged titanium. It also hosts the same leather used in Ferrari sports cars, plus a 2-inch QVGA sapphire crystal display.

Actual real technical specs include 3G/quad-band GSM support (up to 4.5 hours of talk time), Bluetooth, Micro USB connectivity, a 3-megapixel autofocus camera with flash, 4GB of onboard memory and a web browser.

In honor of the current calendar year, only 2,011 units will be manufactured. Pricing isn't specified online, although the device is available at many, many stores around the world. For reference, the standard Ascent Ti starts at £4,900 ($7,768), so you can only imagine how much a special Ferrari edition will deplete your bank account.

It's still questionable why anyone would buy a phone like this over a smartphone that does so much more for a fraction of the cost, but I suppose every consumer is just different.
