Video: iPad glass break test (spoiler: iPad 2 thinner & stronger)

Summary:While it would be natural to assume that iPad 2's thinner glass would be more fragile that its predecessor, iFixyouri tested both and determined that iPad 2 glass is just as strong as iPad 1 glass.

When iPad 2 came out iFixIt discovered that the glass covering the LCD touchscreen was 27 percent thinner than the glass on iPad 1.

  • iPad 1: lcd = 3.2 mm glass = .85 mm
  • iPad 2: lcd = 2.4 mm glass = .62 mm

While it would be natural to assume that iPad 2's thinner glass would be more fragile that its predecessor, iFixYouri tested both in this video and determined that iPad 2 glass is just as strong as iPad 1 glass "because it is a bit more flexible has more bending tolerances."
