Video: Pipe Networks' submarine cable

ZDNet.com.au took a tour through the landing station for Pipe Networks' Sydney to Guam cable, slipping in before the planned lock down in two weeks, when the first customer moves in to its datacentre.

In the landing station, the submarine cable will meet its terrestrial cousins which will snake their way into Sydney metro, connecting Pipe Networks' and other carriers' networks to the undersea cable's 1.92 terabits of data per second.

The facility will also house the equipment to transmit the signal along terrestrial cables, and to power the undersea repeaters for the submarine cable. It showed itself to be a veritable power house, with two 750kVa generators on hand for the case of mains failure, and plans for a tank to hold 25,000 litres worth of fuel.
