Google and VMware have announced plans to collaborate in the cloud enterprise space, with Google services becoming available through VMware's vCloud Air.

Announced on Thursday, under the terms of the agreement, VMware will start selling Google's public cloud services to enterprise clients.

The Google Cloud Platform will be tightly integrated into vCloud Air. Initially, Google Cloud Storage, Google BigQuery, Google Cloud Datastore and Google Cloud DNS will be available for purchase by enterprise clients through VMware's hybrid cloud platform.

Murali Sitaram, managing director of Global Partner Strategy & Alliances at Google commented:

"Our collaboration will provide customers with a unique hybrid solution that combines the power and efficiencies of VMware virtualization and the hyperscale of Google Cloud Platform. As a result of this agreement, enterprise customers will be able to combine their VMware cloud environments with the security, scalability, and price performance of Google's public cloud, built on the same infrastructure that allows Google to return billions of search results in milliseconds."

Existing VMware vCloud Air can expect access to the new set of services over the coming year under their current contracts and existing network interconnect. Under these terms, clients pay for only the Google Cloud Platform services they require, if any.

Google's new alliance with the enterprise solutions heavyweight can help the company compete against the likes of Amazon and Microsoft in the lucrative enterprise cloud market. VMware's substantial client base may prove to be a way for Google to attract new clients, and therefore an additional revenue stream.

The two companies also announced they are exploring extended management support for Google Cloud Platform as part of VMware's vRealize Cloud Management Suite.
