VMware snaps up former Microsoft CIO
Well, that's one candidate we can probably strike off the list of Microsoft chief executive replacements.
VMware announced on Monday the hiring of Tony Scott, former Microsoft chief information officer, to fill the same position at the virtualization and cloud giant.

Scott will manage VMware's corporate information technology organization, a division of the firm that manages its critical systems and worldwide business operations — a similar, if not identical role to the position he had at Microsoft.
He resigned in June to pursue "personal projects," after being hired in 2008 to replace fired CIO Stuart Scott.
Scott joins VMware at a time where its competition with Microsoft is at an all-time high in server virtualization and cloud technology.
As a former chief technology officer to General Motors and a chief information officer to Disney, VMware chief executive Pat Gelsinger described him as a "leader" in his field. He added that Scott's technical team will help support more than half-a-million customers worldwide.
The announcement comes just days after Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer announced he would retire, though speculation remains over the conditions in which he will leave the company.
VMware will open its annual conference in San Francisco later on Monday. ZDNet will bring you the latest as it happens.
