Vodafone will carry Nokia's N900 Maemo Linux smartphone from January, the operator announced on Monday.

Potential customers can register their interest in the device, which marks a break for the Finnish handset-maker from its standard Symbian platform.

Vodafone is the first UK carrier to pick up the N900. The operator has not yet revealed its pricing, but the device is available unlocked for around £450.

The N900, based on a 600MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, has a slide-out Qwerty keyboard and a 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels.
