Voice and data engineers: Venus-Mars in the network?

"'Some days, if I'd had a gun, I would have shot them all,' she said laughingly.'"

Of course North Carolina-based IT consultant Janet Smith was joshing when she expressed that sentiment to Computerworld magazine recently. Still, Smith's statement expressed exasperation about the difficulty of converging voice and data technologies.

According to the Computerworld article "VoIP projects need cooperation of voice and data engineers," enterprise VoIP migration is sometimes inhibited by different technology views held by voice and data teams.

Fortunately, the article just doesn't offer a litany of complaints. There are case-history solutions about how some companies have overcome a gap that to me, sounds kind of like Venus-Mars in the network.

Have you seen a similar data-voice engineer Venus-Mars conflict in your organization? Posting a TalkBack would be a great way to tell us your story.
