in brief Fledgling telco group the Australian Voice over IP Association (AVOIPA) is being absorbed into the Australian Communications Industry Forum (ACIF).

AVOIPA was established last year in a bid to self-regulate the VoIP industry, but founder Mike Carew said the industry needed a unified voice.

"ACIF has demonstrated that it has the resources and the expertise to achieve the sorts of cooperative outcomes our industry will need as VoIP and NGN [next generation network] services challenge the traditional technologies," Carew said.

AVOIPA had attacted industry giants such as Telstra and Intel to its cause.
