Week ahead: All things Linux
Following are some of the notable tech-related events scheduled for the week of Aug. 3. Linux will take center stage in the coming week, with the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo taking place in San Francisco. One important topic will likely be SCO Group's claim that Linux contains code that infringes on SCO's Unix intellectual property. Keynote speakers will include Peter Blackmore, Hewlett-Packard's enterprise systems group executive vice president, and Jonathan Schwartz, Sun Microsystems' software group executive vice president.
Cisco Systems will also grab some of the spotlight, as the networking giant gears up to report its quarterly earnings. Investors will keep a keen eye on Cisco's financial results, given that the tech company serves as a bellwether for the industry.

- XM Satellite Radio is a satellite radio service. It is expected to report a second-quarter loss of $1.28 a share.
Friday, Aug. 8
- Tower Semiconductor is an independent wafer foundry. It is expected to report a second-quarter loss of 31 cents a share.

- Factory Orders is the total of durable and non-durable goods orders. The June total is expected to rise 1.5 percent, compared with 0.4 percent growth the previous month.
Thursday, Aug. 7
- Initial Claims is the weekly total of new claims filed for unemployment compensation. The total is expected to increase to 393,000 for the week ended Aug. 2, from 388,000 the previous week.
