Week ahead: CeBit America

New York tech crowds will be all ears for PeopleSoft CEO Craig Conway's keynote speech at CeBit America, the debut edition of the U.S. offshoot of the massive technology trade show.

Following are some of the notable tech-related events scheduled for the week of June 15.

All tech eyes shift to New York for the debut edition of CeBit America, the U.S. offshoot of one of the world's biggest technology trade shows. Expect a slew of new product announcements from hardware makers and hope for some colorful unscripted comments when PeopleSoft CEO Craig Conway gives his keynote speech Thursday.

Elsewhere, Linux leader Red Hat and contract manufacturers Jabil Circuit and Solectron report earnings, while advertising and marketing gurus convene in San Francisco for the Ad:Tech conference.

    Tuesday, June 17
    • Consumer Price Index is one of most significant measures of inflation, monitoring the decline or fall of the price of a fixed basket of consumer goods and services. May growth is expected to be flat, from a 0.3 percent decline the previous month.

  • Housing Starts is the total of new home construction projects. The May number is expected to grow to 1.76 million, from 1.63 million the previous month.
  • Capacity Utilization is industrial production divided by capacity. The May ratio is expected to hold steady at 74.4 percent.
  • Industrial Production measures the total output of U.S. factories, mines and utilities. May growth is expected to be nil, from a 0.5 percent decline the previous month.
  • Thursday, June 19

    • Initial Claims is the weekly total of new claims filed for unemployment compensation. The total is expected to grow to 435,000 for the week ended June 14, from 430,000 the previous week.

  • Leading Economic Indicators summarizes previously reported totals, such as those for building permits and unemployment claims. It’s expected to grow 0.9 percent for May, from a 0.1 percent increase the previous month.
