Western Digital on Monday announced two new high-capacity portable hard drives, a 750GB model and a 1TB model that's "the industry's highest-capacity 2.5-inch drive available."

How 1TB, you ask? WD manages 333 GB per platter in its WD Scorpio Blue SATA 2.5-inch hard drive.

Both capacities have a 12.5 mm form factor and are intended for portable hard drive use (expect them to join the company's My Passport Essential SE Portable USB hard drive family) as well as laptops and small form factor desktop PCs.

Both drives offer a 3 gigabits per second (Gb/s) transfer rate. WD's Scorpio Blue line features "WhisperDrive" tech for quiet operation, "ShockGuard" for durability and "SecurePark" for long-term reliability.

WD's 750 GB drive (model WD7500KEVT) is available now for $189.99. The 1 TB capacity (model WD10TEVT) is available now as a My Passport Essential SE USB drive for $249.99.

Both are covered by a three-year limited warranty.
