Today, Google announces it has acquired Web-based video conferencing and collaboration solutions provider Marratech.

They sound giddy, as if they were singing, "don't you know we're riding on the Marratech Express?"

So I am looking at the Marratech UI, and its VoIP, IM and video conferencing frames. You're lookin' at them as well.

I suddenly get seized with the notion that this functionality further marginalizes Google Talk.

You know, if Google cared more than a few whits about GT they could have extended the platform to include the video conferencing solutions Marratech is offering.

But I don't see any signs of that.

All this makes me think that Google Talk is headed to Google's corporate backwater where formerly ragin' hot beta projects go to live out their lives in "whatever happened to?" obscurity.
