The third prize in ZDNet UK's Christmas competition is the new, slimmed-down BlackBerry Bold 9700, which comes preloaded with Vlingo Plus voice-recognition technology.

Vlingo is a free application that lets people make calls, search the web, update their Facebook or Twitter status and more, by speaking into their phone. The mobile software also comes in the Vlingo Plus edition, which lets people send unlimited text and emails for a one-off fee of £9.99 or a £3.99 monthly subscription.

Reviews editors over at CNET, ZDNet UK's sister site, rated the Vlingo software highly, calling it a "stellar voice-transcription application" and saying "it's got the best voice prompt package we've ever seen".

The BlackBerry Bold 9700, the second version of Research In Motion's flagship Bold smartphone, launched in October and has picked up appreciative comments for its superb mini-Qwerty keyboard and good screen. The compact handset has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and GPS connectivity, and promises good battery life. One lucky reader can win the BlackBerry Bold 9700 with Vlingo Plus, courtesy of Vlingo.
