Founded in 1945, the company started off as a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company that produced oil and laundry soap, and later diversified into the IT business in 1980. Wipro is headquartered in Bangalore and employs 72,000 people globally. It serves 928 clients around the world.

The Indian company has 54 development centers worldwide, and provides IT solutions and services, including systems integration, information systems outsourcing, software package implementation, software application development and maintenance, and research and development services to corporations globally.

Wipro is the world's first CMMi Level 5 certified software services company and the first outside the United States to receive the IEEE Software Process Award.
