Here's a novel idea for an iPhone app. Insurance provider Nationwide has launched an iPhone app -- Nationwide Mobile (free) -- that lets customers capture detailed information about a car accident, including its location and take pictures from the scene with the iPhone's built-in camera. Not sure about video though, perhaps in version 2.

Naturally it will let you call for police help, a tow truck, an authorized repair facility and even find a Nationwide agent close to you. It even includes a flashlight app.

I'm pretty sure that Nationwide is the first insurance company to release an iPhone app and I'm giving them kudos for thinking outside of the box with their app -- even if it's a bit morbid.

There's a new TV commercial promoting it (YouTube).

On your side, indeed.
