THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., 12 June, 2000 -- Xircom, Inc., a provider of mobile data access solutions, signs agreement with Ericsson Mobile Communications AB to cooperate in the development, testing, manufacturing, and marketing of Bluetooth wireless connectivity products.

Xircom will become the primary provider of mobile data access products for Ericsson and will collaborate in integrating Bluetooth wireless technology into wireless data solutions targeting notebook and handheld PC devices. The collaboration will create, manufacture, and market wireless products for mobile professionals and corporate IT/IS customers.

Bluetooth wireless technology transfers data via short-range radio signals at 1Mbps, creating a 'Personal Area Network' for devices such as mobile computers, mobile phones, handheld PCs, and data information companions.

Using Bluetooth wireless technology, these devices will be able to synchronize, exchange and update information, and connect to the Internet at high speeds without the need for wires or cables.

When products with Bluetooth wireless technology are within a 10-meter range of each other, they can wirelessly transfer schedule and address-book information automatically between the users' accessory device and notebook PC, or automatically dial through a mobile phone to access the Internet.

"This agreement with Ericsson is the first step in a multi-phase strategic plan that will position Xircom as a total provider of wireless data solutions for Wide Area, Personal Area, and Local Area Networks."
