Yahoo! is expanding the Connected TV Widget Developer Program with tools and the opportunity to create paid TV widgets that could be featured in the Yahoo! Connected TV store.

Developers can create a paid TV widget using the existing WDK. Pricing will be determined by the developers, but the sale is a one-time purchase that must be between $0.99 and $99.00. Yahoo! will handle payment processing for the Paid TV Widgets, and then deliver payments to developers, who will receive 70% of the revenue. Consumers can buy widgets using U.S. Dollars, Euros and British Pound Sterling.

There will be a full demonstration at CES 2011 in Las Vegas in January, followed by a launch of paid TV widgets in March. The Paid TV Widget developer program is open to developers now in the following countries: United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Sweden, France, Canada and Australia. The Paid TV Widget development program will be expanded to other markets in the future.
