Our colleagues at CNET first noticed that the company's popular mail service was inaccessible and began snooping around.

Yahoo said:

We are working to correct the issue and restore all functionality immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who might be affected.

It also repeated the sentiment in a tweet about an hour ago.

The company didn't acknowledge the extent of the outage or the reason for it.
