YouTube to expose video upload API

Video and photo sharing sites often provide API's that let webmasters create mashups with their content -- but for some reason, these sites often only expose half of what is possible.  For example, YouTube doesn't provide an API for uploading videos from other websites, but why not?

Exposing an interface that enables the users of independent websites to upload video directly to YouTube would be a great way to inject some fresh content.  For example, if I had a website with some sort of video hosting component, an API like this could save me a ton of money on bandwidth and give YouTube a lot more ad real estate.

Well, it looks like people have been requesting this very feature for a while now, and finally YouTube announced in this discussion group they will be providing an upload API "in the near future".

"An upload API will be available at some point in the near future." -- Pablo (YouTube Employee)
