ZDNet announces a personalized news alert system that notifies readers by e-mail as breaking news occurs.

With ZDNet News Alerts, readers can select--by keyword, company or topic--notifications that will be delivered directly to their in-box. For example, readers who choose "open source" can elect to receive an e-mail when each open-source story is published or opt for a once-a-day summary.

Readers can register for multiple alerts and are able to customize the incoming subject line for better e-mail management. The service also provides an easy customize-or-cancel feature with each alert.

ZDNet News Alerts is available free to registered members. Readers who have registered for the TalkBack feature can simply log in to set up Alerts. New users will be asked to register with ZDNet.
