Open source backup and recovery independent software developer (ISV) Zmanda formally announced two new products tailored for Windows users.

Zmanda, of Sunnyvale, Calif. announced Zmanda Recovery Manager Enterprise Version 3.0 for MySQL and Zmanda Internet Backup (ZIB).

ZRM 3.0 is the first Windows edition of Zmanda's recovery solution for MySQL. It offers hot backups of live MySQL databases on Windows, leveraging both Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshots and database restore using ZRM’s built-in point-in-time recovery capability, the company said.

ZRM 3.0 supports Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Vista servers as well as native compression and encryption used on the integrated Windows backup server.  Incidentally, Version 3.0 also adds new support for Debian Linux and Ubuntu Linux.

The recovery solution is  designed for medium-sized customers and enterprises and is priced at $300 per server, whether the server is deployed in mixed environments or pure Windows environments. Add-on snapshot options for NetApp SnapManager and EMC Clariion are available at a starting price of $250 per MySQL server,  Zmanda also announced.

The open source vendor also announced limited availability of an Internet-based backup solution for Microsoft small to mid sized business customers that back up their Windows Server and applications such as Microsoft SQL Server and Exchange Server files to  Amazon’s Simple Storage Service, also known as S3.

Zmanda notes that it will work with only a limited number of customers initially and will charge a  one-time $50 charge for each Windows Server protected and a flexible pay-as-you-go cost of $0.20/GB/month for storage used and data transferred to Amazon S3.
