In brief Peter Lawrence will be taking on the role of Department of Defence (DoD) CIO.

He replaced Greg Farr, who is leaving in November when his five-year contract finishes up. Contrary to speculation about a fallout with the department, Farr is leaving for personal reasons.

Lawrence will be moving on from his current position as group manager of IT energy markets at Origin Energy in Melbourne. He was previously the CIO of ANZ in New Zealand.

He has also worked as the IT country leader at Shell Australia.
