Dimension Data has purchased Australian managed security services provider earthwave as part of its efforts to help grow into cloud services, IT outsourcing, and enterprise mobility.

Dimension Data director of solutions Neil Campbell said that the company had been working with earthwave for more than 10 years, and that the acquisition was a natural step for the company to take.

"Where there is cross-over with Dimension Data's existing security services, notably in both managed and professional services offerings, the acquisition will significantly strengthen our current security practice," he said in a statement.

Earthwave's founder and CEO Carlo Minassian will remain involved in the business, which will function as a separate business division of the larger Dimension Data company. As such, he has joined Dimension Data as its general manager for Managed Security Services. He will report to the general manager for Connectivity and Security Solutions Darren O'Loughlin.

"It's been a pleasure working with Dimension Data as a partner for over a decade, and I am looking forward to the next phase for me and my team as we become part of a global organisation," Minassian said.

Through the acquisition, Dimension Data will be able to offer its customers earthwave's services and infrastructure, including two Sydney-based security operations centres (SOC). Earthwave's services have included providing "SOC-in-a-box" services to enable the professional security services of organisations to be outsourced, and without having to build separate infrastructure.
