Contact Energy's CIO in New Zealand, Luc Hennekens, has been recruited as the new Qantas CTO.
Hennekens will take over the position vacated by Stephen Wilson in July this year. Wilson moved on to become the CIO of Sydney Water after working for the airline since 2010. He previously had worked five years as the NSW Department of Education's CIO and was the chief architect of the digital education revolution.
Hennekens will be joining Qantas on January 21, 2013, after he finishes up at Contact Energy.
Once on board, he will look after Qantas' technology architecture and end-user computing environment.
He will also be in charge of the airline's IT centre of excellence, which focuses on "specific technology functions and initiatives, and supports the business engagement centres aligned with Qantas Domestic, Qantas International, Loyalty, and Corporate streams", a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement to ZDNet.
Henneskens will form part of the senior leadership team lead by Qantas CIO Paul Jones. Both could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
