Cloud-service provider Rackspace has brought its alliance with EMC Down Under, with the storage vendor's technology underpinning its impending Western Sydney datacentre.

Rackspace announced the launch of its first Australian datacentre back in August, with the facility set to go live next month after signing a decade-long agreement with the datacentre's owner Digital Realty.

EMC is the only external storage platform that Rackspace is offering in the new datacentre.

Rackspace and EMC have been working since 2001 on a range of offerings which makes use of the storage vendor's infrastructure, virtual storage and cloud-based data management products. The cloud provider joining the EMC's Velocity Service Provider Program in late 2011. This allows Rackspace to sell EMC-powered public and private cloud services.

Both parties have collaborated on a market strategy for these cloud services for the Australian market, and have identified finance, retail, media, and technology as being the key verticals to focus on.

"The cloud market is booming," Rackspace country manager in Australia Mark Randall said in a statement. "With that in place, the market needs vendors to provide cloud services, and hence storage as well."
Current Rackspace offerings that use EMC technology include its managed enterprise private clouds which is based on the storage vendor's Symmetrix VMAX and VNC unified storage, an EMC spokesperson told ZDNet.

Rackspace has already been doing presales for the datacentre ahead of its launch next month. The cloud provider has over 190,000 customers around the world, including local clients such as Lonely Planet, Tourism Queensland, and Kogan.
