As part of a contract with Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA), Australia's largest telecommunications company will deploy 3000 digital media signage units that will provide free Wi-Fi to customers who buy CCA products in bars and restaurants.
In partnership with Mandoe Media, the units will be around the size of posters and will display digital content and advertising, in combination with hosting free Wi-Fi. Customers will get a code to access the Wi-Fi when they buy a Coca-Cola product. The Wi-Fi will connect through to Telstra's Next G network or its 4G network in places where 4G is available.
In a statement, Telstra said that it had already deployed a number of trial units. Coca-Cola had seen up to a 50 per cent increase in revenue, with customers buying up for the free Wi-Fi.
Telstra's group managing director for Enterprise and Government, Paul Geason, said that the partnership allowed Telstra's network to connect Coca-Cola to its customers.
"In addition to creating a rich database for CCA, the digital media signage facilitates meaningful interaction, with a targeted customer base. This type of solution speaks for itself, in terms of impact on the bottom line."
Telstra had signed a AU$150 million, 10-year deal with CCA in 2009, to provide managed services and telecommunications for the soft drink company.
