Telstra will provide managed telecommunications services including video conferencing to Australian Customs and Border Protection in a five-year deal worth AU$56 million.
Telstra will supply network services, unified communications and video conferencing, mobile voice and data, satellite, and point-to-point services to the 5,700 staff members in the department working in a variety of places to monitor Australia's borders, including at Australia's ports and on patrol vessels in the waters surrounding Australia.
The deal follows the AU$32 million contract that Telstra secured with the department in July to offer internet gateway services to Customs and 10 other government agencies. Telstra's chief customer officer Gordon Ballantyne said that the deal extends Telstra's long relationship with Customs.
"This agreement is designed to leverage our national infrastructure, strategic capability, and understanding of the ACBPS operating environment to develop and implement a range of highly scalable and future solutions that will support their critical operations," he said in a statement.
"By providing a single point of accountability for telecommunications, Telstra will be able to seamlessly manage end-to-end security and integrity for [Customs] across the nation."
