Bligh opens $44m Brisbane datacentre

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh yesterday launched iseek Communications' $44 million new energy-efficient datacentre in Brisbane.

"We live in an era where IT is a critical component of any business and the need for facilities like this has become vital," Bligh said. "We also live in an era where energy-efficient business is now equally critical and the iseek centre features efficient cooling systems and a fully redundant fibre network."

The new datacentre is located at Brisbane Airport, which, according to iseek Communications managing director Jason Gomersall, gives the centre an extra bit of security and stability.

"Placing the datacentre on a managed, fully planned precinct gives us access to standby on-site emergency response, 24/7 curfew-free operation and robust power infrastructure," he said.

The facility is iseek's third datacentre, and Gomersall said it is the most energy efficient in Australia.

"The datacentre has been strategically designed to reduce power consumption and energy costs through innovative building technology and design, allowing businesses to reduce their own carbon footprint and power wastage," he said. "Our energy design plan has enabled us to make energy efficient decisions, without compromising the power requirements of our customers."
