The text of the article is available in Italian with an English translation (thanks to Google). Zambelli concludes that "The approach of AT&T is not so bad, much better than a lot of international carriers."

Given all the smoke and mirrors used by carriers, it appears that the consumer needs a truth in purchase statement. In other words, a clear statement of what you are paying for the phone and how costs maybe shifted into your monthly charges. I look at it as a loan, with interest, being paid monthly by the subscriber. It would almost be like a truth in lending statement.

With all the BS statements about carriers "subsidizing" phones it obvious that this type of reform is long overdue. This does not mean I am totally against the current tactics used by carriers, but I do believe the consumer needs to be better informed on how ?costs? are being shifted into monthly charges. Moreover, one should be offered a lower monthly rate if you opt to purchase the phone outright or already own your own equipment.

I think Wimpy said it best, ?I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today??
