(Apple has posted a QuickTime stream of the event, in case you missed it.)

The highlight of today's event was the launch of a new 30 percent thinner iPod with a larger 2.5-inch QVGA 320 x 240 screen capable of displaying video. However exicting as it may seem, Steve Jobs made it abundantly clear that the new 5G iPod is a music first device.

The other piece of the announcement was iTunes 6.0—that's right a whole new version a scant month after iTunes 5.0 was released. That has to be a record!

iTunes 6 allows you to purchase a variety of new video content from the renovated iTunes Music Store, including a selection of 2,000 music videos, six Pixar movie shorts and six television show including Lost, Desperate Houswives, Night Stalker, The Suite Life,  and That's So Raven for $2 a pop. Sure there isn't much content up there now, but you know that this is only the beginning for Apple.

The new iPod is available in either black or white enclosures with either a 20GB ($299) or a 60GB ($399) hard drive. The Apple Store is quoting 5-7 business days shipping.
