Apple market capitalization tops GoogleApple (AAPL) eclipsed Dell's market cap of US$71 billion in January 2006 and in intraday NASDAQ trading in June 2007 Apple’s market value doubled that of Dell’s (DELL), $127.81 billion vs. $63.65 billion. Take that Michael Dell!

Today our favorite Cupertino company achieved another financial milestone, passing the market cap of tech darling Google (GOOG). According to John Paczkowski's piece at AllThingsD "Apple’s current market cap: $159.37 billion. Google’s: $157.56 billion."

Take that Sergey and Brin!

• it means nothing

Easy comes, easy goes, that number is just that, a number; prosperity doesn't always last forever...

• Agreed

Apple also *had* a bigger market cap than IBM but that lasted what... a day???

• However.

You cannot just ignore numbers and their importance. Unless you don't care what your wage slip says at the end of the month.

• This news comes as great relief to many

This will totally make up for the fact that MobileMe doesn't work, the iPhone 3G doesn't work, Mac video cards don't work, and OS X has the worst security (being first to fall at the PWN2OWN contest). I always loved ZDNet talkback conversations that went like this:
A) My iPhone 3G needs to be rebooted 3 times a day. My WM phone was far more stable.
B) Yeah, but Apple's stock price has gone up more than MS's! Oh, and the Zune sucks.

• Let me introduce you

to the concept of cognitive dissonance. The ability to hold two
contradictory positions as both being true.

The fact that Apple's stock continues to rise proves that all the
horrible things you mention, were, in fact, not as horrible as you
think they were.

Let me introduce you to another concept: The internet echo
chamber. That's the one where fifty people shouting really loudly
think they are actually fifty thousand people.

Sucks to be Google! Well it has always sucked to be them, but now it sucks even more!

• All chicken scratch to MSFT...

As my broker and I discussed, MSFT's market share is still the most impressive. With products like Windows 7 in the pipeline, I see another stock split.

• Oh, yeah.

MS has 10 times the market share as Apple but but only 1.6 times
the market cap. I am blown away.

And, hate to pop your bubble, but company stocks don't split
when they are trading at $27.91.

They do split when trading at $179.32.

• Watch out Mike...

Or you might be subsisting off of chicken's foot soup one day!

• Apple market capitalization tops Google

While google seems to give everything it does away free, Apple actually charges people--a lot--for cellphones, computers and mp3 players. What a concept!

Google doesn't give away anything. Advertising, my good
