Windows users upgrading to Vista were shocked to discover that music purchased from the iTunes store  wouldn't play after upgrading to Redmond's latest OS.

In response to the problem Apple yesterday released The iTunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0 (Download ID: sd12872) - which allows music purchased from the iTunes store to play in Vista. The patch "will repair permissions for important files required by iTunes to play your iTunes Store purchases."

But that's just the beginning though. Apple notes that there are six other known issues with iTunes 7.0.2 and Windows Vista:

  • iTunes Store purchases may not play when upgrading to Windows Vista from Windows 2000 or XP.
  • iPod models with the "Enable Disk Use" option turned off may be unable to update or restore iPod software, and make changes to iPod settings.
  • iPod models configured to Auto Sync and have the "Enable Disk Use" option turned off may require being ejected and reconnected to resync.
  • Ejecting an iPod from the Windows System Tray using the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature may corrupt your iPod. To always safely eject an iPod, choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu within iTunes.
  • Cover Flow animation may be slower than expected.
  • Contacts and calendars will not sync with iPod.

According to knowledge base Article ID:305042: "Apple is preparing to address a number of iTunes compatibility issues in the next release of the software." Be on the lookout for iTunes 7.0.3 in the coming days or weeks.
