I love this kind of stuff. Whenever there's an Apple giveway with a prize involved people will try to figure out creative ways to win it. Especially when they're given a hint.

Apple has been promoting the fact that they're about to log the one billionth app downloaded from the iTunes store and to celebrate Apple is giving a MacBook Pro, iPod touch, Time Capsule and a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card to the person that downloads the one-billionth app. You’re automatically entered for a chance to win whenever you download an app from the App Store (either in iTunes or from an iPhone or iPod touch).

I previously noted that Apple’s app counter is a very smart background change of this image that simulates the counting pace according to the latest stats from the App store.

TechCrunch notes that Apple has already estimated when the event will occur -- 1:24:06 AM PST on April 23 -- and has created a special page to note the milestone:

Simply go to your system settings and set the date and time to anytime after that mark, and reload the main Apple page. You’ll be greeted by big picture on the landing page reading, “Thanks a billion. Over a billion downloads in just nine months. Only on the App Store.”

Do your part and start downloading some apps, or at least check for updates on the apps that you already have.
