The New York Times and MyiPhone.com are reporting that Cisco and Apple has reached a temporary truce on their battle over the term "iPhone." The short statement, issued jointly by both companies reads:

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 31, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Apple and Cisco have agreed to extend the time for Apple to respond to the lawsuit to allow for discussions between the companies with the aim of reaching agreement on trademark rights and interoperability.

You can rest assured that Apple has a lot of skin in the game and is incredibly motivated to settle the squabble by the time iPhone launches this summer.
