Google Apple CollaborationAppleInsider reported on Monday that Apple and Google working on "many more" projects together. According to AI Schmidt made the comments at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference "while responding to a question concerning rumors that the two firms were working on a tablet-style personal computer."

I've been a vocal critic of the lack of productivity since the Eric Schmidt appointment to the Apple board both here and on the PowerPage podcast and it's about time that two of the biggest tech brands in the world develop some synergy.

Some great potential Google/Apple mashups:

  1. Google Docs and Spreadsheets for Safari
  2. Google Apps for Leopard (Mac OS 10.5)
  3. Offline Google Apps
  4. Apple's Spotlight search technology powered by Google
  5. Google Maps/Google Earth support in iPhoto and Aperture (iLife? iWork?)
  6. Full Google Video and YouTube support on the Apple TV
  7. Full Google Video and YouTube support on the iPhone
  8. Google Photos integration with iPhoto and Aperture
  9. Google Talk client for Mac with full video and voice support
  10. Tighter Google Calendar/iCal integration
  11. Migrate .Mac to Google and make it free
  12. A sub-$500 notebook
  13. A tablet computer
  14. A special lightweight Google OS for the above two portables

What would you like to see from a Google/Apple mashup?

  • I think I don't get Google stuff yet.

I added the toolbar to Flock and didn't really see anything there that was of any
use to me that I didn't already have in Safari on the Bookmark Bar.

The Google Apps bit looks like it might be of interest but between Word,
NeoOffice and Pages, do I REALLY need another text editor?

I do like the spelling checker on the Google Apps but have yet to really see it in
    action.

I am absolutely against .Mac being integrated into Google Mail. I would rather see
it the other way around simply because Apple, in my opinion, does a better job at
everything. I see no advantage to using Gmail other than it is free, but I like the
    other services from .Mac.

iWeb doesn't work as well as it should and perhaps there is something there.
Also, I would like it if Google could seize my built-in iSight and let me record
video directly to YouTube or Google Videos. But does that really require
    collaboratoin?

If Google can do real-time share prices from markets around the world without a
fee, that would be of great interest. Other than that, it all just seems to be the
    same-old same-old in a different package.
