An AppleInsider reader located an annotated Flickr album of four dozen Snow Leopard screenshots he published a bit earlier in the week. Some of his observations:

  • Initial setup now warns you if you don’t choose a password hint.
  • Time Machine menu bar icon is now grayed-out if Time Machine is not configured.
  • Clean Up icons command in the Finder now “slides” icons into place instead of them just moving instantly. It’s a neat visual effect.
  • There is no QuickTime preference pane, and no preferences within the application itself. I theorize that Apple is going to do away with QuickTime Pro entirely.
  • Quick Look now works from Open and Save dialogs.

The Flickr user inewton1974 expects to see Snow Leopard released by October with a brand-new interface (which many are calling “Marble”) that is similar to the new QuickTime X interface with “glossy blacks, probably a lot of transparency as well.”

You might want to check out the screenies before Apple legal gets ahold of them.

Haha, this is a blatant copy of Vista!!
NonZealot Updated - 29th May 2009
Using Apple zealot logic where the HTC Touch Diamond (and every other full screen touch screen cell phone ever released in the last 5 years) is a clone of the iPhone instead of the HTC Touch (that predated the iPhone), I now declare that Snow Leopard looks a lot like Vista and therefore is a clone of Vista. It is obvious that Apple took the concept of a "mouse" from Vista and applied it to Snow Leopard. Apple also copied the concept of transparency from Vista. And where do you think Apple copied restricted rights user accounts from? Yup, Vista! Hey, I'm just using Apple zealot logic here! happy

I theorize that Apple is going to do away with QuickTime Pro entirely.

Well, considering how terrible QuickTime is (once again it is being used to spread malware), this would be fantastic news. Unless you mean they are just getting rid of the "Pro" version and keeping the fatally flawed by design version? I hope not. The Internet would be so much safer if Apple ditched QuickTime.

But it doesn`t look like Vista because Vista doesn`t have a boring 1985 style GREY theme on it.
At least make it a transparent silver theme, so it goes along with the rest of the gay-mac look grin

Or better, make macs black (or more black with some silver) and put an black&silver theme on the OS, and then maybe they will look good.

No, you don't understand Apple zealot logic. It depends on when Win7 and Snow Leopard are released. If Snow Leopard is released after Win7 then Snow Leopard is a direct clone of Win7. MS's next OS (say Windows 8) will then be a direct clone of Snow Leopard and Apple's next OS will then be a direct clone of Windows 8).

This seems to be the only logic that allows the Apple zealot's belief that Windows Mobile full screen touch screen cell phones are clones of the iPhone even though Windows Mobile full screen touch screen cell phones existed long before the iPhone. You can only look back 1 generation and you have to ignore the existence of all generations before it.

Of course, I might have missed an asterisk. Apple zealots are big fans of asterisks that allow them to apply Apple zealot logic only in cases where it makes Apple look good. I don't know, their asterisks get very complicated sometimes. They have to be to justify their "Apple is goooooood, MS is baaaaaad" Animal Farm mentality.

In "Animal farm mentality" Nonzealot is Squealer.

Sometimes I look through the replies just to see how ridiculous NonZealots comments will be.

Is it going to be the story about the 7 year old ipaq that does the same as an iphone some bonkers logic about there being lots of apple zealots out there picking on great MS products.

I'm a PC user and an HTC mobile phone user. However you would have to be dumb as a hill billy not to realise some things Apple does very well. MS has never been that good at innovating and MS Windows is so weak I am stunned anyone can defend it.

However Squealer will not see the logic in that argument.

Why is that Apple's fault? OS X supports 64-bit memory addressing.
Adobe is the company that isn't releasing it.

"Adobe Premier Pro(you know, the program that Apple ripped off

Randy Ubillos and his team that wrote Adobe Premiere were the
programmers who developed Final Cut Pro. Apple bought Final Cut

...it`s just as good as windows, for me. Works ok, fails sometimes. I hate some things on it, just like i hate other things on windows.

But overpriced propertary hardware and locked-in dummy-proof features (to protect mac users from their own actions) is pointless to me and Mac fanboys are useless and irritating.
And i payed 139$ for it, not 100$ ( i know it`s 129 on the Apple Store, but i didn`t get it from the Apple store, and 10$ isn`t a deal breaker for me)

Give me a barebone Mac Pro (just the case + Logic Board, or better yet, without the LB, because the LB fits normal EATX standards) and let ME do the rest, install what hardware i want, CPU coolers i want, Video card coolers i want (i like my Accelero S1, fanless equals zero noise, and i`m a freak when it comes to computer noise, my custom built is dead-silent at idle (all fans al 400-500rpm, suspended hardrives for zero vibrations and noise etc.)

And no, i dond`t need a guarantee from Apple that it will work on "X hardware component" or "Y hardware component", i`ll take FULL responsabilty for my actions with that install of OSX, i`ll even sign an agreement with Apple for this situation.

what is weak
martin23 30th May 2009
What I said was that MS mobile is so weak not Windows. I don't think there is anyone out there who at the moment is suggesting MS mobile is in a strong position. Windows 6.5 it to little too late. Unless windows mobile 7 is a huge leap this is a product set for an end of life cycle unless the volumes can be increased.

As for your request to "give me something OSX can do that Windows can not". Clearly there are many things OSX does that are better than windows and some windows does better than OSX. You demand to know which features OSX might have which windows does not is as logical as arguing is a GM car better than a Ford.

One thing few would argue with though is that Apple has a much better understanding of the user interface and a much more innovative approach to product development. MS strength has never been its innovation but its business brain, something which Apple was for many years very weak at. Apples dilemma going into the future is when and if it makes OSX available on non apple hardware.

"Using Apple zealot logic where the HTC Touch Diamond (and every
other full screen touch screen cell phone ever released in the last 5
years) is a clone of the iPhone instead of the HTC Touch (that predated

The HTC Touch and iPhone looked nothing alike. The HTC Touch also
didn't bring the ease of use that the iPhone did, nor did it bring the
distinctive design elements that makes Apple products popular.

Companies borrow/steal ideas all the time, Apple makes them
functional and aesthetically pleasing. When Apple does that, they
become the benchmark for everyone else.

In your typical zealotry and fervor, you consistently forget (or, more
rather, purposefully ignore) that it is not necessarily the company that
is first to the market that makes them successful; it's often the
company that best implements those features and solutions.

As I've stated countless times and as you've blundered on ignoring
countless times, Apple's innovation and success is owed to its
implementation of technologies and making them attractive and useful
to everyone. Apple didn't invent the GUI, mouse, 3.5" floppy, USB,
CD-ROM, etc., but they're the company that defined those products
and made them useable or popular.

Again, for who knows how many times I've stated it before, Apple
didn't invent the music player or touch screen cell phones, they just
made them better.

Incidentally, you must really have it in for BASF. The entire basis
for the chemical corporation is, "We don?t make a lot of the products
you buy. We make a lot of the products you buy better."

"Hey, I'm just using Apple zealot logic here!"

Considering how completely backwards your arguments consistently
are, I'm pretty sure it's just your usual logic at work.

Btw -> They are starting to use them, as i read the links someone gave me then, so they have not used them "extensively". Let`s see what happens to them after an year or so, when they will start to fail, because as i said (and this, i stand by) CVILIAN hardware (it is not about Apple, it could be Dell hardware, HP hardware, Sony hardware, any civilian hardware) doesn`t belong in the army, it was not made to widstand severe conditions.
Oh, and btw, good luck with begging the marines/soldiers to "take care of it ", because last time i checked, those guys are more busy protecting their heads/arms/legs/torso from incoming bullets/rockets etc., they don`t actually have time watch out and not drop their Ipods, you know, it`s REAL Warfare, not paintball. Hmmm... It comes closer to the term "invention" than to the term "evolution". Appl makes things somewhat more easy to use, but that isn`t a revolution, a new way of doing it.

If Apple made a control device that connects to your brain and you can use mind control instead of a keyboard, than i will kiss the ass of Steve Jobs for 2 months. That would be a revolution, a real innovation.

as I explained in an earlier post on another article is the "evolution" of the Windows OS...

So we have Apple Evolution:

Xerox GUI to
Apple Macintosh OS to
OS 7/8/9 to
Mac OSX

Now Windows Evolution:

Xerox GUI to
Apple Macintosh OS to (stolen & tweaked)
Windows 1x to
Windows 3.1 to
Windows 98/ Windows NT to
Windows ME/ Windows 2000 to
Windows XP (a blend of ME and 2000) to
Windows Vista to
Windows 7

So in all actuality any form of windows is nothing more than a pirated, tweaked, blatant copy of the Mac OS.

Case closed NZ.

...can't get it to run. It said that libglade-gnome.so.0 is not found. I tried to apt-get install libglade, or libglade-gnome, but it's not available in the Ubuntu repository.

I really like the look of a terminal for Snow Leopard; that's why I'm trying to get the look I want in Ubuntu.

I know the solution is to "buy a Mac" but if I could pay it in 12 monthly payments for an iMac (~$100), then I could just get rid of Ubuntu, but even with that kind of monthly payment, I don't want to waste my money on that -- even Mac Mini, as I don't think it's very attractive. I'm very likely to get bored and wanted to expand and upgrade some components of a Mac. A Mac just doesn't fit well with someone (like me) who likes to build a computer for a living. I will buy a Mac once I get out of college and have a job (right now, I'm a student). I treat a Mac as a "bragging right" instead of a necessity (luxury, if you will).

The weakness of laptop components and the fact that it cannot be carried around, like a laptop. It`s a useless pos, better save money and buy a Mac Pro, or if you don`t need serious processing power, get a MacBook (Normal or Pro). And upgrading desktop components is a lot cheaper than laptop components, so the IMac upgrades costs alot more.

But if you actually know how to build computers, why the hell are you getting "the computer for noobs i.e. mac" ? Just built your own, it`s a lot cheaper and you can get quality components, unlike the likes of Dull...ehmm..Dell, without the "Apple tax"

How can you even shape your mouth to give advice on what Mac to
buy? Macs don't need to be tinkered with. I guess the HP All in One
Touch Smart, Dell Studio One, Sony Vaio LV and so other All in Ones
are POS too? The iMac is much better than any of them.

The Mini can be had in any number of configurations. Not everyone
who buy a computer has a need to tweak it. The need to change is
part of the mentality one gets from using Windows products too long.
A Windows computer never delivers a satisfactory user experience.
Hence the need to constantly "adjust" it.

While all you cheap @$$ windows buyers are busy trying to make your
Windows running POS useable the Mac users are getting stuff done!
