iPhone 4 jailbreak imminent

By | July 5, 2010, 10:18pm PDT

Summary: An all-device jailbreak (like Spirit and Blackra1n) is right around the corner for the iPhone 4 and will probably arrive right after Apple’s 4.0.1 firmware update.

According to a tweet by a member of the iPhone Dev Team, an all-device jailbreak (like Spirit and Blackra1n) is right around the corner for the iPhone 4:

MuscleNerd: @xfsasx jailbreak for all devices at 4.0 is already handled by upcoming @comex release so, good time for iphone4 unlock stuff

Comex is the developer behind the jailbreak for iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPad and iPod touch.

The question isn’t if, but when, the i4 JB will be released. Since an iOS 4 update is due within a few weeks, it would only make sense for the devs to wait for that to hit before showing their cards. But I’d expect it soon thereafter though.

Why jailbreak? One major reason, for me anyway, is to run a personal WiFi hotspot on my iPhone 4.

Jason D. O'Grady

He started writing one of the first Web sites about Apple (O'Grady's PowerPage) in 1995 and is considered to be one of the fathers of blogging. He has been a frequent speaker at the Macworld Expo conference and a member of the conference faculty. He also co-founded the first dedicated PowerBook User Group (PPUG) in the United States.

When he's not writing about Apple for ZDNet at The Apple Core, he enjoys spending time with his family in New Jersey.

WOW how lame.. another person posting some garbage on here just to generate traffic! the screen shot is a fake, its not 4.0 or the ip4, first it has an icon called "camera zoom" when the ip4 has a zoom camera, does not need an app to zoom. second where are the folders??? 4.0 comes automatically gives voice memo, compass, calulator and clock together in a folder. third, the calculator icon is WRONG, that icon is from 3.XX and last, what is with icy icon?? if im not mistaken its been gone for awhile!. wow dude this news you posted is also stolen from someone elses page which was posted over a week ago.. jason D. O'Grady you are a fraud!!! and i just busted you on it!!

@bustin o'grady Are you really this ignorant? Seriously? jason D. O'Grady you are a fraud!!! and i just busted you on it!! No you didn't bust him on it - iOS 4 is ALREADY jailbroken on the 3G iPhones and iPods... I had my 3G running iOS4 jailbroken the third day I had the OS installed... unless you think I'm lying as well. Look up Blackra1n as a jailbreaking method.

4.0 comes automatically gives voice memo, compass, calulator and clock together in a folder Those may possibly (although every iPhone 4 I've seen has not) come together by default with the new iPhone 4 but they do NOT come that way with the new iOS... check your facts before you post otherwise you look like an idiot. The screenshot may not be and likely is not iPhone 4 but it more than likely is an earlier model running an earlier iOS version jailbroken... BTW ICY is the same thing as Cyida - an alternate app store one can only get via jailbreaking but was supposedly discontinued in Nov 2009... But the screenshot may or may not be from a 3x jailbroken device but that screenshot does not change the fact the iOS 4 jailbreak already exists and the jailbreak for iPhone 4 is on the way - but don't let those facts stand in the way of your trolling.
