iPhone New York TimesThe information vacuum surrounding iPhone's rate and data plans leaves us little choice but to speculate.

iPhoneFAQ reports that AT&T will require you to purchase an unlimited data plan with iPhone, potentially leaving customers that use little or no data paying extra. The good news is that Gizmodo quotes an AT&T sales rep who says that the unlimited (albeit slow) EDGE data plan will cost US$30 per month.

I think that US$30 per month is a little spendy for a paltry 236.8 kbit/second EDGE data service and think that it shouldn't cost more that US$20 per month.

What do you think?

• My EDGE unlimited plan is $20

My smartphone plan on AT&T is $20 for unlimited data and 300 text messages so why would AT&T offer it different for iPhone? Ususally they only charge more if you tether and I haven't heard that Apple was going to allow tethering.

• ATT's rather proud

It looks like they are pushing very hard to max their profit per phone, and not
go for the volume they could have. I don't think very high pricing is going to
last very long and can see some major changes after December.

No doubt that the iPhone will be a sell-out in their stores for a while, but
before too long people are going to start saying that they will wait for price
drops on the required plans before buying. Know I would if I was hot on
buying an iPhone.

• HAHAHA!!! It just gets better and better!!

So now, not only does Apple handcuff you to a 3 year plan on a carrier that may not have been your first choice, they are now forcing you to pay for services that you may not want?! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Boy, am I glad I'm not locked in to Apple technology. But, the Apple zealots, who are so used to paying for things they don't need just because Jobs needs another few million bucks in his bank, will DEFEND, DEFLECT, DISTRACT and tell us that, once again, this is no big deal. I can't wait to see the justification for why paying $30/month so you can resize pictures with 2 fingers is somehow a "good thing"!

Want OSX? Buy an overpriced Mac.
Want iPhone? Buy an overpriced plan.

I see things are business as usual over in Cupertino. Even funnier is that 30 million Apple zealots are slobbering with anticipation over this thing and are anxiously holding out their hands so Jobs can slap the handcuffs on! Have fun with your data plans!

OUCH!!

• iPhone contract is 2 years

And the requirement cut be AT&T choice and not Apple. Hard to said.

• As it has been said many times before...

Your irrational hatred of Apple Inc?, makes you look like a fool. Your lies
make you look dishonest. Your rants based on nothing more than you own fantasies,
show everyone you're truly a windows zealot.

• It's funny (or maybe sad)...

that the Zealot goes into this rant (I can almost see him foaming at the mouth), all
over speculation. He can't even wait for the facts before he goes hydrophobic.

Of course, if the facts don't fit his version of reality, he makes up new ones. Talk
about a 'reality distortion field.'

• Already spending $45, $30 sounds good!

I have a Palm with Verizon's unlimited data plan for $45 a month. And, it is no where near the speed of Edge, which will satisfy me just fine.

• 3G v. EDGE

Did anyone notice in Steve Jobs discussion today with Walt Mossberg at D5 he
inferred the iPhone as being 3G?!
