LG-KE850 touchscreen mobile phoneThere is some speculation, fueled by a story about the phone at Hungarian site Mobil Portal (mirror), that the LG KE850 (pictured) could be the iPhone.

From the few details available the KE850 appears to be based on a 240x400 touchscreen interface, with Send, End and Confirm being the only real buttons. Some also think that the KE850's shape and color share lineage with LG's Chocolate line of mobile phones (LG-SV590/KV5900/LP5900), so it could be one of those too.

It could even come out today.

I think that Apple would be crazy to introduce anything before the Macworld Expo keynote on Jan. 9, but Gizmodo goes out on a limb stating that iPhone is coming out today. In Gizmodo knows: iPhone will be announced on Monday Brian Lam says "I guarantee it. It isn't what I expected at all. And I've already said too much."

More pictures and the original report (in Hungarian) is available at Mobil Portal

If all this iPhone excitement wasn't enough for you, check out the Google phone, a tie up between everyone's favorite search giant, Google, HTC and Orange to build a gPhone, which would run Google software.

  • Gizmodo was pulling a prank

Take a look, the iPhone they were discussing was released today, from Cisco, who own the trademark on that name:

  • "What a maroon . . . ."

as Bugs Bunny would say. All over the web this morning there seems to be people who are actually upset by the fact that this iPhone was released by Cisco. "How dare they pip Apple!" "How dare Cisco nik the iPhone name!"

    Wowy!!

Folks -- from the get-go -- this whole Apple cell phone thing has been/still is a rumor -- NOT a confirmed fact. IF and when Apple releases something, only then will it will be the fact. Till then -- chill.

  • Let's see what Apple does

The LG phone is interesting, but I would want to see want Apple does
before actually buying another mobile phone.

Will it have a built in iPod? A stripped down version of OS X? Internet
access so we can bypass the carrier when possible?

Most important: will it have a simple menu to replace the FUBAR
menu I have on my current Cingular phone?

Personally I'm looking for Apple to shake the industry up a bit and
the new LG isn't going to do that.
