New screenshots have emerged that purport to show some of the new hardware features rumored to be coming in the third-generation iPhone hardware -- widely expected to be announced at WWDC on 8 June 2009.

The first shots (below) show the difference between the 2MP camera in the current iPhone (left) compared to the same shot taken with the new iPhone's improved 3.2MP camera with auto-focus.

The second shots, courtesy of a Chinese-language blog UMPCFever (via MacRumors), show two other much discussed features.

On the left is the interface for the auto-focus on the iPhone's new 3.2MP camera. Near the middle of the screen is a blue box which can be dragged around to change the object of focus. On the right is a screenshot showing the new digital compass feature expected to be coming in the 6/8 iPhone revision.

What do you think about how the new iPhone is shaping up? Anyone else counting the days until next Monday?

[i]What do you think about how the new iPhone

I think it is fantastic that the iPhone is
finally catching up to where Windows Mobile was
5 years ago. The 480*320 resolution was
fantastic... 5 years ago. The 3.2 mega pixel
resolution was fantastic... 5 years ago. Copy
and paste was fantastic... 7 years ago.

    • And It's Still Going To Bury Windows Mobile

      Nice try though.

    • Only done right.

Your tripe isn't even entertaining. Nor are the other nicknames you post
      under.

      C'mon, WM is barely usable.

    • I find it quite amusing

that you are on the bandwagon of the biggest copycat and will undoubtedly on your last breath proclaim it to be innovative and original.

      HA!

Windows Mobile is based on Windows XP(? I can't recall which version of windows WM is based on, I believe it's a bastardized version of XP)which is based on Apple's original Macintosh OS which ran on the original Mac Lisa - which was based on a GUI invented by Xerox that Jobs purchased.

Yeah, the patron saint of all PC land Bill Gates pretty much stole the original Mac OS and added some code, changed some icons, and called it Windows. The resulting success was due to a combination of MS-DOS being on damn near every computer at the time, Apple being an untried company, and some admittedly good advertising on Microsoft's part.

Ya know, it looks to me like Apple took that lesson to heart. You always claim it is marketing that made the iPhone and iPod so popular - looks like Apple lifted a page from the Microsoft book and did them one better. Go figure.

Anyway, back to my point... the iPhone OS is based on Mac OS X which is based on Unix.

Windows Mobile at it's most current version (6.1 I believe) is still nowhere near as easy to use as the original iPhone 1x version. Hell most users had to bake custom roms just to get some usefullness out of a WM device... and that's provided that a certain tweak was baked into the rom to allow apps to actually close rather than keep running resulting in memory leaks and even more sluggish performance. Now I will admit that some iPhone users have gone the jailbreak route to add those features that should have been added to begin with. But Apple is learning. Funny, I wonder how much of the closed platform and proprietary issues that Apple has with it's products are a direct result of what Bill Gates did to them so long ago? By that logic I guess it is all Microsoft's fault that the iPhone was so limited... No, I'm not really seriously saying that is the reason but it may play a part.

Windows Mobile? Innovative? Not hardly. Windows Mobile is almost as unwieldy as Windows ME and I'm sure even you, Mr. Microsoft himself, will admit that Windows ME was an huge steaming pile of crap. Hmmm, there's a thought... maybe I was wrong and WM is not based on XP but based on Windows ME... THAT would explain quite a bit... if it was actually based on XP then it would run a lot better and be far less buggy.

At any rate NO Windows Mobile is not innovative or original by any stretch... iPhone OS may not be original but it is innovative which is why so many people love their iPhones, which is why so many manufacturers are making their own versions of it. Face facts NZ the iPhone is the best smartphone and the easiest to use that has ever been made - despite it's shortcomings.

So go snuggle up to your 7 year old iPAQ and dream of having more than 1Gb flash ram while the rest of us move on.

Troll is fed for the evening... LOL

  • Are you using '3G' for 'third-generation'?

    That's very confusing, man.
