One thing that I hear from a lot of people with iPhones is "I wish that it had (insert program here)."

While I agree that the iPhone needs third party applications, or at least widgets, the void is being filled by an increasing amount of slick Web applications that run on iPhone's Safari browser. The problem is that it's difficult to keep up with them all.

A number of iPhone application list Web sites have popped up including iPhoneWidgetList.com (about 160) and iPhoneApplicationList.com (~120) but by far my favorite is iPhoneAppr.com because of it's slick iPhone interface.

Leaflets are optimized versions of popular sites (like Wikipedia, Flickr, Upcoming, Del.icio.us and NY Times, for example) that run extra fast on iPhone - even on AT&T's pokey EDGE network.

Bookmark these in Safari and they'll appear on your iPhone after your next sync.

  • Great, but...

    1) Does the iPhone have a "flight mode" and, if so, can you access / use these apps?
    2) Will they work whilst I am on the tube?
    3) Will they work whilst I am on the Eurotunnel?

My knowledge of the iPhone is not 100% so I will need someone who actually has an iPhone to answer these (my guess is that it somehow caches these apps for use when the data stream is unavailable).

    • Can't speak for "flight mode," but...

this may answer the question of using apps offline:

      data-URLs[/u]

      • That is fine, but what about the apps...

        which store your data online?
If not, can the iPhone store documents locally and edit them offline (which is what I meant when I asked whether it worked in flight mode)?

    • As for "flight mode,"

a simple search on Apple's website yields this result:

Anything else I can look up for you? ;)

    • Now I get it...

all your 'Save the Queen' posts!

My BlackBerry did not work last time I was in the Tube - does your mobile work there now?

Also, you can't get an iPhone in the UK - so what's with all the rant and lather in your anti-Apple posts?

I love brits, but you are an AHole!

      • Actually, it is 'Defend the Queen', tut tut

Why didn't your BlackBerry work on the Tube seeing as you can install apps locally and use them?

Alas, you are quite correct. The iPhone isn't available in the UK at the moment, which is precisely why we "brits" need to get our information from those that do own an iPhone.

You do own an iPhone, don't you?

  • Good List Website

I too like iPhone Widget list. They seem to add 10-20 a day. I wonder how they will
all deal once it get's in the 1000's.

I need to be able to hear when an e-mail comes in and my phone is in my belt case and turned off. There should be an extension on the arriving e-mail sounds that can select a ring tone that sounds even when the phone is off.

  • Need e-mail alert mod

3g I phone needs to be able to select e-mail ring tone to alert when an e-mail is received (with phone off). Modify e-mail arrival software to extend a ringtone selection option.

I really loved reading your blog. It was very well authored and easy to understand. Unlike additional blogs I have read which are really not good. I also found your posts very interesting. In fact after reading, I had to go show it to my friends and they enjoyed it as well! movie ipad 2 download
