While iOS 4.2 was just released on Monday, version 4.3 may be right around the corner.

Sources tell MacStories that an iOS update will be needed to support iTunes' new recurring subscriptions. Word is that iOS 4.3 is just that update and that it will support Apple's new subscription billing APIs, enabling subscription apps like News Corp's forthcoming iNewspaper app -- The Daily.

Gruber thinks that iOS 4.3 will be announced on Thursday, December 9 and released on Monday, December 13.

  • Sure hope this includes streaming of Camera Roll video to Apple TV.

    I'd like to know if omission of this feature from 4.2 was a technical thing or a (*&%^$ lawyer/DRM thing. I'm suspecting the latter.

  • Ha, I knew it!!!

    iOS 4.2 was a mess and Apple knew it! Missing features galore, multiple "GOLD" masters, and extreme bugs proved that 4.2 was madly rushed. The 4.2 that was promised with functioning AirPlay and AirPrint that works with more than a handful of printers? That was never delivered. It was vaporware.

    • The fact that 4.2 isn't perfect like Windows is (cough, choke).....

      just made your whole week, didn't it, NZ?

      • No

        @Userama
        But seeing you coughing and choking did. :)

      @NonZealot Have you used it yet? I've installed it on my 3G but unfortunately I can't use many of the new features on it due to "hardware" issues... so I'm once again waiting for the jailbreak to come out and tax returns to upgrade to an iPhone 4... I was toying with Android but AT&T has crippled all of theirs and I'm not that impressed with WP7 right now - neat device but I'm still liking iOS better. Hopefully by the time I get an iPhone 4 there will be more things Airplay and Airprint work with.

      • I have installed it

        @athynz
        I had the deleted library bug and now when I open a new page in Safari, 50% of the time, the new page opens to a blank screen and I have to hit the reload button in order to get the page to show.

        My network printer (along with 99.9% of all the printers in the world) isn't compatible with AirPrint so that feature does me no good.

        I don't own an AppleTV and have no intention of downgrading from my Win7 HTPC so AirPlay is useless.

        On the plus side, my recurring alarms work again! Yay! Go me!

        @NonZealot I don't have any of the issues you and others seem to have - my library is intact and I have yet to see a blank page when I open Safari and select new page. I don't have Apple TV either and might not get it since FIOS now has a media manager that will play anything I have on my PC including iTunes purchases so Airplay isn't a big deal for me... hopefully Apple will get the issues fixed soon.

    • What The "F" are you talking about?

      @NonZealot If your brains were dynamite, you wouldn't be able blow your nose with it.

      @NonZealot I'm not having any issues with 4.2.1 but obviously you're incompetent with using technology you've done nothing but gripe yet you continue to use Apple products.

      By the way youre still dodging me when it comes to the term VAPORWARE.

      Getting schooled too hard to swallow?

      • But... but... but... Apple products "Just Work"!!

        @cyberslammer2
you're incompetent with using technology

I thought Apple was for those who didn't want to read manuals, study for years about computers, tinker, fix, hack, etc.? AirPrint doesn't "Just Work". It is a fail. The 4.2 that Jobs promised us is vaporware.

        @NonZealot Again, I'm going to have to OWN you like I always do.

Airprint works. It's not the fault of Apple..know why? You have to create a FIREWALL EXCEPTION in Windows to use it because Airplay is a service that runs in Windows to enable you to print over a networked printer.

So guess what? It's not Apple that's the issue in Airplay not working. It's MICROSOFT. Once I created the exception to pass through the firewall, I printed just fine to my color laserjet and my all in one HP scanner/fax.....and it worked FINE.

So again, you've been SCHOOLED.

        • RE: Rumor: iOS 4.3 to arrive in mid-December

          @NonZealot and sorry, WRONG again...you never mentioned what 4.2 was, you just griped that 4.2 didn't exist. It's been released, it exists, so it's not VAPORWARE.

          Learn something about terminology and IT before you come in here posting. Maybe take a few college classes or get a certification or two?

      @NonZealot

      One gm that did not make release in how many years of updates from apple?

      AirPrint works with thousands of printers. Certainly with the ones I have tried, none of which are built for it.

      Airplay works with AppleTV as far as I know, do you know otherwise?

      So which of yours statement is meaningful?

      @NonZealot DON'T FEED THE TROLL, PEOPLE!

      If you ignore NZ he will dry up, wither and blow away.

  • Been avoiding 4.2 because of all the bugs...

    I'll be watching the user forums at Apple to see if the myriad problems with 4.2 are actually fixed. When 4.2 hit, those forums lit up like a Christmas tree, causing me to delay upgrading.

    • RE: "myriad problems"

      @BillDem
My experience has been that the "problems" have been more with lacking/partially lacking features rather than things NOT working at all. AirPlay works very well with my existing AirPort Expresses (3) and with streaming still pix to an Apple TV. I don't know what hardware you have, so issues may vary with different hardware configs. Mine is iPhone 4, iPad, Apple TV 2.

      • No, but.....

        @NonZealot
        there is one on the MacBook Air that Apple is buying her for Christmas. In fact, all my Apple equipment was paid for by Apple (stock). Mmmmmmmmm, that kool-aid is tasty!!!
