A new raft of Apple hardware rumors are circulating courtesy of a short post today by DigiTimes.

The Chinese language publication validates previous claims that Apple is building a CDMA iPhone to run on the U.S. Verizon Wireless and China Telecom networks. Pegatron Technology is expected to start mass production in December and will supply to both carriers for a January product announcement at CES 2011.

Digitimes Research reports that Apple has re-engineered the CDMA iPhone hardware, dropping the problematic external antenna used on the current iPhone 4 for a more traditional integrated antenna design and replacing its glass rear panel with one "forged from metal materials."

On the iPad front, Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo reports that Apple will launch an upgraded iPad with a 9.7-inch screen, faster ARM Cortex-A9 processor, and 512MB RAM (like the iPhone 4 and double the current iPad's RAM) in the first quarter of 2011. Apple is also said to be developing a 7-inch iPad mini with a Cortex-A9 processor and an IPS panel running at 1024 × 768 resolution.

And if that wasn't enough, DigiTimes also rekindles the iOS Apple TV rumors from earlier in the year:

Apple is also set to launch a new Apple TV using AMD's Fusion solution and will not include a hard drive. The new device will adopt a user interface similar to the iPhone with support for social networking websites, network multimedia and the App Store. Mass production of the device will start in December, Digitimes Research noted.

    If you true, you can buy an iPhone on Verizon and permanently be stuck on Verizon. At least with AT&T when your contract is up, you can have your iPhone unlocked. With Verizon, if you're not happy and you want to change carriers, you'll have to buy a brand new phone.

    Not to mention that the rest of the world runs on GSM, not CDMA. If there's an iPhone on Verizon, better hope it's a dual "World" phone with both GSM and CDMA.

      @olePigeon Well AT&T and Tmobile (The other GSM carrier in US) uses a different 3G frequency so you can go to tmobile but no 3G access (Might as well get another phone)

      @olePigeon <br>AT&T is the same in regards to unlocking an iPhone. I had no problems unlocking any of my Motorola phones in the past. However if you google "at&t will not unlock iphone after contract expires", you will find plenty of folks complaining that they cannot free up their iPhones even after the 2 year stint.<br><br>Replying to @mrlinux, I was under the impression that once you jail broke an iPhone (at least in the US), it worked on T-Mobile. At least the videos on YouTube show the phone coming up on T-Mobile.

        @mkyoung <br>Jailbreaking and Unlocking are two distinctly different tasks. The Jailbreak get you access to many Apps outside the iTune Store inventory. Unlocking allows registering to a different carrier by slipping in a working SIM card.<br><br>You are right that T-Mobile has a different 3G net so you are stuck with 2G data...AND you'll lose Visual Voicemail (if that matters to the unlocker).<br><br>BUT a Jailbroken and Unlocked iPhone fetches lots more value on eBay because they can be sent to other places...

      @olePigeon This is getting as bad as Sony MGS4 game going to Xbox 360! No one should be assuming iPhones are coming to Verizon ever!!!<br><br>#1 Verizon is doing very with Samsung, Motorola and HTC. Why threaten them with competition? And the iPhone would require Verizon to do what AT&T had to do for Apple.<br><br>#2 The assumption that the contract is up in 2011 is totally false. In fact it was most likely extended from it's 2012 original expiration when they got the iPad exclusive. Why in the World would Verizon get the iPhone and NOT the iPad. First of all AT&T had to set up servers for running Apple's Garden Walled Network and servers to route to Apple's iTunes. Notice all Apple devices are run separately from AT&T's main user base bypassing their own services. You are only offered services that Apple allows where AT&T makes no extra money on them. Like their "Video Share", etc!<br><br>Here's a conversation within an Apple Insider and Joint Forces Command Officer about that contract an it expiring not next year or even the year in 2012.       @olePigeon Not true, there are reflashing technologies out there, like Houdinisoft, that can reflash any CDMA phone over to any carrier's network, voice and data services. So much for being locked into one network on CDMA.

    If the trade papers and blogs just <i>keep</i> reporting it, someday they'll actually be right!

    Back in mid-June the rumor was that production was to start in September for a Holiday launch. Now it's December production for a calendar Q1 2011 release at CES. The only problem being that Apple doesn't [i]do[/i]CES. Something tells me that in January we'll hear all about the "confirmed" plans to start production in April for the annual June iPhone refresh.

      @matthew_maurice No matter how hard Apple stock market bulls and fans in the corporate world try to advance these rumors (and that's all they are), it'll never happen. All you do if you're Verizon is fragment further your already battered main manufacturers in Samgung, LG, RIM, Palm, Winmo(WP7), Moto and HTC. What Verizon may already have exclusivity agreements in place with them. That say we will not bring iPhone to our network, if you give us better deals!

      They can make money with these other phones an that's been proven because AT&T makes more money off it's other manufacturers than off Apple. Right now Especially RIM, Moto and Nokia!

    Once again, my post was lost because your system allows me to write a complete response before reminding me to login. The end result is that my posts get lost about half the time. This is not just bad for the reader, it is bad for your bloggers because it reduced responses and therefore pageviews. I hope you get around to fixing this soon!

    I used to be against the idea of a CDMA iPhone, but now I'm for it. If is silences all the CDMA fanboys from the blogs and message boards it will free up more time to read informative posts. Plus if it frees up some space on the AT&T network, I'm all for that. Also, some pricing competition wouldn't be bad either. I guess I was pretty short sighted...

    Some competition for the iPhone plans would be great. i like the ipad, as a movie lover i spend ,most of my time on watching dvds, when i have this ipad, i use the aneesoft ipad apps to change all my dvds to ipad support format, and so far i'm very impressed with the ipad, only its a little heavy for me.

    I wouldn't be surprised if the rumors of a metal-backed iPhone were actually about the next-gen iPod touch.
