• Pathetic loser

What are pathetic loser you are. Thats coming from a person
who is running Windows Vista, and to this day is still
receiving major updates to fix performance and reliability
issues. How about fixing those damn issues in SP1!

Really, what a pathetic loser you are - do us all a favour and
die quietly in the corner.

Be accurate. Issues in SP1? As though Mac OS X 10.5 doesn't have it's own "issues"? I have and like both operating systems at home and work, but Vista is more complete and capable for work. Combine it with Office 12 and OS X really pales with iWork. Leopard has some wonderful capabilities, features and I love the way it works, but it has a number of shortcomings. I'm also getting a little tired of the Steve Jobs "my way or the highway" approach and the expense. PC hardware prices have come way down the last few years and Apple's prices are the same. 3 years ago I bought an HP high-end media center system for $2,000, the iMac was about the same for comparable config. Now I can get a high end config from HP for current high-end machine for $1,200, that is with 8 GB of RAM! A slower iMac with 2GB of RAM is still over $2,000. Unfortunately, I think their growth has peaked along with their egos. They junked the @mac.com for @me.com? What a joke. Too bad, it is a great company and has great products, but they are shooting themselves.

• I'll take issue with just one statement...

"Vista is more complete and capable for work. Combine it
with Office 12...."

There are those of us who work at real, full time jobs, who
have no need for Office, and yet we use computers every
day for critical work.

I personally use Cadac Electronics' Sound Automation
Manager (Windows only), figure53's QLab (OS X only),
Yamaha's DME Designer (Windows only), and Yamaha's
Studio Manager (Windows or OS X) every day. I do my CAD
work in Vectorworks (Windows or OS X), my diagramming
in OmniGraffle (OS X, but I could use Visio) and my
database is Filemaker (Windows and OS X). I use a
spreadsheet more for it's nice grid (although I do use some
pretty basic formulas), and Excel works, but is overkill.
Numbers is just fine for me.

My point is: Not everyone works the same way. It's the
software you use, not the Operating System that
matters.

If your software is cross-platform, your choice of OS can
be based on personal preference.

• iMac Cost

Bull! $2000 for and iMac with 2gb of RAM! Try $1275, As for
the HP... You have some serious issues with telling the truth.
The "Apple are more expensive" argument is just utter bull.
HP all-in-one, which is the closest offering, (you have to add
Vista Ultimate, as the other editions offer a subset of Leopard
out of the box features...) start at $1200 + Vista Ultimate
upgrade (oh and an equivalent HP for $1200 - matching
feature for feature - with 8gb RAM... $2106.97 BEFORE SALES
TAX!!!)

• Will Apple EVER stop innovating?!?!

Wow, an anti-phishing filter in a browser. Where on earth does Apple get these fantastically innovative ideas from?

;)

• Considering

Considering that this has been around for ages, I don't know
what you're getting at - it is merely a logical extension of SSL
that should have been implemented long ago; Both Firefox
and Internet Explorer support it btw.

• Re Will Apple EVER stop innovating?!?!

Yeah, coz Bill and Paul innovated from day one didn't they...

• Available via Software Update

Yeah, you don't need to click on a checkbox to get the upgrade. In fact, you don't even need to have Safari installed to get the upgrade! You just have to have been foolish enough to install iTunes at some point and Apple will "decide" for you that you need Safari too. :)

• Actually

The checkbox was not checked on mine. But I did get the damn popup anyway, which is not a pleasant thing on a media center. So when I get time I'll be uninstalling anything from Apple.

Hopefully Amarok for Windows will become viable soon because I would still like to be able to synchronize my iPod without having to use my laptop as a go-between.

• Amarok is bright shining spot in the Linux landscape

Amarok was my favorite part of using Linux on my desktop. Best media player on any platform.

• Songbird...

Amarok - like most linux software (Fedora is my primary OS)
is half baked. Songbird is the way forward.
