The recently released Mac OS X v10.6.7 Update software fixes a number of bugs of interest to graphics pros. However, not listed on Apple's support note on the changes are a number of random and serious Adobe CS5-specific incompatibilities.

According to Adobe blogger John Nack, Snow Leopard 10.6.5 introduced a a range of erratic problems and these were fixed with the update this week. Some of them sound like April Fool's Day jokes:

* The warning, “Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?” appears when you open Photoshop. * The startup screen reads White Rabbit, instead of Photoshop CS5, and looks different. * Tools behave as if the Shift or Option keys are pressed. * Your cursor remains the plug sign (+).

White Rabbit?!? This sounds like an Adobe CS5 code name. None of these classic bugs made Apple's change list, which points to other improvements in the graphics dept.:

- Resolves a window resizing issue with X-Plane 9 on Macs with ATI graphics - Improves brightness on external displays and projectors. - Addresses an issue with some NEC displays in which the screen may appear black when connected to a Mac Pro (Mid 2010). - Resolves an issue in which some Multiple Master (MM) fonts were missing from Mac Pro (Mid 2010), MacBook Pro (15-inch & 17-inch Mid 2010), and iMac (Mid 2010) computers. - Includes the ability to repair certain issues that may prevent hardware RAID volumes from mounting.

  • Funny but no Snow Leopard problems here

I run CS5 on a 3 year old MacPro (4GB RAM) running an updated Leopard and Photoshop occasionally hangs for 10-20 sec before responding (ie, when you select the text tool) and for the first time in many years, crashes once in a while attempting different processes (ie, doesn't seem deliberately repeatable).

I also run CS5 on a new 27" iMac (4GB RAM) running Snow Leopard and it doesn't seem to exhibit the same issues. It hasn't crashed once in over 4 months of similar use.

  • Is this for real?

My ex just got a MacPro to use in her college CG/Animation program, and expressed having some problems with installing both CS5 and Maya. I don't know what version of 10.6 she's running, but is this something I should tell her about or is this some kind of an April Fool joke?

Please understand that we're best friends, and are both too old to appreciate practical jokes, so I'd like a straight answer, s'il vous pla?t.

    Dank'

I use CS5 and the help using AIR does not work at all and gives me the cryptic message that it is broken and to reinstall which does exactly zip....same message. Adobe was unable to help me in repairing this so for those with that issue, get the pdf of the help and use that in the old fashioned and trustworthy manner. very annoying I must admit. I do not know if this is a Snow Leopard issue or not. It is however an Adobe issue yet to be resolved.
